Most people visiting Japan think that Japan is a concrete jungle. However, Japan actually has a wide variety of things to do and see if you are a nature lover.
Here are 3 places to check out if you’re looking to relax and unwind near Tokyo for all those nature lovers out there!
1.
Why not visit Gankoyama Tree House Village and try out Village Housing in Japan! Located in southern Boso, Chiba, this was actually one of the first tree house villages in Japan, dating back to 1998! It’s perfect if you would like to learn a little about how the locals in Japan live their eco-friendly lifestyle. Not only will you be able to unwind, and as they say ‘co-exist with nature’, you will also be able to have some fun along the way.
2.
Try the historically lovely area of Karuizawa. Known to many of the locals as Japan’s premier resort area, Karuizawa is best to visit during summer time. Fun fact for you, John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, used to take their family along to Karuizawa every summer so it has to a destination to try out! In particular, they would visit a particular bakery while on vacation. For more information, visit http://www.french-bakery.jp/ One of Japan’s most premier resorts is also located in Karuizawa called Hoshino Resorts. For more information, visit their website at: http://hoshinoyakaruizawa.com/en/
3.
Totoro Forest in Saitama. If you’re a lover of Totoro or anything Ghibli, this is a place for you! A little over 1 hour by train, this is a place you can not only unwind in but also have a lot of fun in the process. For more information, visit the following website: http://www.totoro.or.jp/kurosuke/index.html
These are only a few places I think nature lovers would enjoy that are relatively close to Tokyo. If you’re looking for more places to visit during your stay, I would suggest asking some locals in the area where they like to unwind. You may just find the perfect destination for you!
Enjoy your staying in Tokyo:)
